Data Collection and Click-Stream Data
Browsing any website, including the DoIR site, generates a trail of the pages that are visited, and the time apparently spent displaying each page. Click streams are the paths a user takes when navigating a website and the Internet in general.

When you visit our site, our servers may record the following information for statistical purposes:

• The user's server (IP) address and machine name
• The date and time of visit to the site
• The pages accessed and documents downloaded
• The number of bytes transmitted and received for each request

DoIR examines this information to determine the traffic through the server, and to specific pages or applications, in order to deliver better services.

No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except in the unlikely event of an investigation, or the need to determine details related to a security breach or other inappropriate activity.

Cookies information

A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user. DoIR uses only session ID cookies and, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. Cookies can be easily blocked on your computer by simply un-checking the "accept cookies" option in your web browser. This can be found under the options menu of your Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Explorer browser software.

Protection of Personal Information

DoIR will only record your email address if you send us a message, or if you register with us to use a software application, or to be included on a mailing list. Your email address will only be used for the purpose for which you provided it. We will not use your email address for any other purpose and will not disclose it to other parties, without your consent.

Where we allow registration for a mailing list then we will also provide a facility for you to edit or remove your details from that list.

Information given during the course of online purchases and product orders may be used to determine your liability to Australian GST on the items purchased or ordered.

Links To Other Websites

DoIR may decide to link to other websites which contain related information. The Department is not responsible for the content of any linked sites.

A link to a site does not imply that the Department endorses that site or the organisation operating that site, it is for reference purposes only.

DoIR may link to a site that collects information about the user and we cannot control the collection of this information. Users should contact these content providers directly if there are any questions about the use of information they collect. These sites and services may have their own privacy policies, or no policy at all. We encourage users to review the privacy policies of any third party sites or services before providing them with personal information.

When linking to an external website, text around the link will make it clear to the user that they are about to leave the DoIR website. Links should open as externally linked pages in a new browser window - the external site will not be framed within the DoIR website.
